For context, I currently work for the fed govt which has no fancy perks or bonuses, so if I’m theoretically supposed to get anything when accepting an offer I want to know what the universe of asks is.
Ask whether they prorate the bonus (so you only need to make the # of hours required for the months you’re there to get your bonus). Ask about parking bc some firms make you pay for your parking and it’s not free. Other small perks can include internet stipend, phone plan stipend, home office stipend (we got this when Covid first started so not sure if still relevant) and wellness stipend
Also, depending on where you are going -(1) ask about the bar registration fees (most firms cover this I think) but best to confirm. My current firm covered for both my US and UK qualifications/ bar fees as these can add up; (2) cover for training/CLEs; (3) business development budget. Perhaps the foregoing are not perks per se but benefits that the form should make available or cover for your training/ career development/license maintenance
Don’t ask for most of this stuff until you start and review the manual. Ask for non-prorated year end bonus during negotiations. If you’re going to a true biglaw firm, salary is standard and all of the perks are in the handbook.
A3- The perks may be detailed in the handbook but you get that info after you get an offer, and not during negotiations in my own experience. Curious if you have been able to get a hold of a handbook pre-offer.
