Is there a specific number of hours you need to have to get promoted to manager in your sub-service line?
I transfered from one sub-service line to another but I'm already a senior 3, will this affect promotion to manager? If yes by how long?

There is no specific number of hours. You will be promoted to manager when those above you think you’re ready to run a SALT engagement with minimal oversight, both from a tax technical and process standpoint.

There are a lot of factors that affect the promotion to manager but hours is not one of them. The hours is a requirement to continue being employed. If you want to be promoted, start a conversation with your coach and partner and evaluate your skills overall, both technical and soft skills to see if you can see youself ready to lead an engagement yet.

Probably a bit premature but would like some advice. Current in-house sr counsel at 155k +15% bonus in NJ. Company is well established private company. In the latter stages of interviewing for an established startup- salary will likely be 180-200 plus equity (pre-ipo). Very happy currently but promotions are hard to come by. Thoughts on using an offer (if one comes) as leverage for a raise (which they’re working on) or just making the move to be number 2 attorney at new company

I’m starting my first year as partner and really underestimated the cash flow challenges I’ve always heard about. With 3 kids, my health insurance is 5x, plus the tax burden, and despite a $100k bump, my cash flow is less. Aside from just being conservative, any advice? My spouse is really confused why a promotion causes financial challenge!

Currently an A2 in GPS (up for promotion) and I know I will be rated exceptional this year (2nd year end). I was not exceptional as an A1 but fingers crossed I will be exceptional as a C1. I got into an M7 school as a deferred admit and am aiming to enroll in school fall 2023. From what I have read, there are some who “retroactively” apply and get GSAP and go into school right away. Can someone provide a story or guidance on how they went about this?
