Hello folks, I’m having a bit of an inner conflict. I have been at my job 4 years come January. The company is great, but the turnover for higher positions is non-existent. In my time here, I decided to get my master’s online in Computer Information Systems with the hope to move onto tech. After doing some research, all jobs require some form technical experience which I don’t have…that made me lose motivation quickly. I want to do an MBA in the next 2 years. I’m currently up for Senior consultant promotion but I don’t think I can make good money in consulting till I become Partner. At my current firm, been seeing a lot of people get extended until eternity on the same project / clients. One of the big draws of consulting was the variety, which I am not getting here. Just signed with an MBB. Will I finally get project variety or will I continue to work at one client for up to a year?

At what point does “ego” stop mattering? Over the past 5 years I’ve worked my way to being an Account Manager, but ultimately my career goal is to work for the government. There’s an opportunity to be an admin assistant working for the government, and would be a nice way for me to get in and move up. But the title change from Account Manager to Assistant is a big deterrent. Logically I know that it doesn’t matter, but emotionally it’s hard to feel like I am taking a major career step back?
