How do you balance work and fun?
I see several posts from people asking how they can help during these times with a few extra $$$ to spend. Here is just one of many ideas.

#stepuptothetable is about helping local restaurants who are struggling during these times. I have seen numerous linkedin posts with videos where people challenge each other to step up to the table & buy meals & gift cards from their community restaurants. A great way for those of us who are more fortunate to support business & keep people employed.
Enjoy it while it lasts!

What is Alphabet getting? I genuinely have no idea.
Alphabet is a holding company of which Google is part of. Each of the companies within have their own budgets, staff, needs. It’s not really what’s “fair” it’s business.
Google isn’t the holding company. They have zero control over what Waymo gets. As many others have said, they’re completely different CEOs, budgets, ROIs. It’s not about being “fair”.
Also Google CLOUD is a part of Google. You’re really breaking down small portions and comparing them against each other when that’s an apples to tomatoes way.
Be thankful you have a job

I really dislike this response. It’s like every time something bad happens that affects majority of people, I should forget my hard earned education, certifications, work experience and just be grateful? I am grateful I have a job but I can also be in a position to still want a promotion or raise because I deserve it.

Each business line has different margins and ROI; employee expense limits should also vary.

Whenever someone starts a post with “It’s unfair”, I just stop reading. Sorry 🤷🏼♂️

I thought maybe I was too snarky, so took a step back and reread your posts and thought maybe I’d rephrase my comments, and ask a question instead ....
Google had $162 billion in revenue and Waymo had, essentially zero. Actually they did get an $800k contract in Detroit to shuttle auto workers around, but compared to $162B it is essentially zero. Why should employees at Google and employees at Waymo get paid the same?
Also, Alphabet holds Google but also holds biotech companies, AI research companies, autonomous cars, etc. There is nothing that says all employees across the board of a conglomerate should get paid the same. If you have disparity at the one company you work for, why wouldn’t there be disparity at a conglomerate?
Alphabet is only comprised of 12 companies, what about Proctor and Gamble? What about Berkshire Hathaway? They have 60+ but many of those are conglomerates as well so technically Berkshire would hold hundreds and hundreds of companies. Should all of them be equal as well?

Do you have the exact same role and job function as folks under the alphabet brand?

Alphabet is a holding company of different legal entities. They all operate with some level of autonomy tied to their budget, and just because one entity does one thing doesn't mean another should have to do it. So I'm just saying it's irrelevant because this isn't a "what's fair" situation.

For the record, I don't work there. I just heard and thought it was silly to do this. I expected a more equal approach given that Google is generally quite fair and balanced in their actions.
If you don’t work there, then you don’t know what is going on. Distract yourself with your own business.
I expect there’s probably a reason for the equipment based on role type (engineers, corporate, etc.) to ensure folks can do their jobs most effectively.
We all got a flat $1k and a specific list of what is allowed/not allowed without that (eg monitors aren’t allowed but you can get a new chair). If you have specific role needs, you and your manager have to discuss and get it approved outside of your stipend.
