It's wild to think we've gone nearly three years of nonstop layoffs in tech, even though a real recession never officially hit. Every job posting seems to draw a sea of applicants, sometimes a couple of thousands for a single role, which makes landing something feel tougher than ever. When do you think we’ll finally see a break in the clouds and things start feeling a little less cutthroat for folks looking for work?

Right now it’s still brutal in certain pockets, with hundreds of thousands laid off since 2022 and some roles pulling in thousands of applicants, but the pace of cuts has already slowed compared to peak 2023, and a lot of companies have finished “right‑sizing” and are shifting back to more sustainable hiring, especially around AI and revenue-critical roles. No one can call the exact month things feel “normal” again, but if trends hold, the next couple of years should feel gradually less cutthroat. Not easy, but less like a constant bloodbath

I've come to the conclusion that it is more of a tool than an actual need. It strips some fat. That's what it does. Just like inflation.

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?

Hi! Does anyone know what kind of knowledge is needed to crack the Data Scientist interview at Google?

I'm currently working in Marketing Analytics (primarily using SQL and a bit of pyspark). Apart from mastering SQL, I wanted to know from people working at Google what does it take to get there as a Data Scientist? (I'm very interested in Strategy Ops)

I plan to another 6-8 months in preparation and upskilling myself before I even apply.
Any help and guidance is appreciated! Thanks :)

Hello recruiters, happy Monday!

I want to know why recruiters ask me in an interview if I am looking at other opportunities, or if I am interviewing at other companies. If I say yes they will ask at what stage I am.

I just want to know the reason behind it and if there is a right answer to this question!

Let’s talk comp — I’m a remote head of recruitment with 6 years of experience being paid 75K base plus bonuses that got me to 90K this year. I’m interviewing for other jobs, and have a potential offer at $130K base. Any idea what the market is like? Is seems like anything between 72K and $250K is possible. I have no idea what to ask companies for.
