I’ve been in industry for 2 years (after paying my dues to the public for 4 years), and every day I wake up hating my job. The pay/benefits are great, but I’m completely disinterested in the industry of my company and the work itself. There is a lack of training, and I’m feeling like a cog in a wheel that is just doing something for the sake of doing it without understanding what the hell I am doing. Is it too late to go to a small CPA firm and branch out in a few years?

You might want to consider developing some hobbies. Most people really enjoy their life outside of work once they do this. They then see Work as a vehicle for supporting and enabling things they really want to do. Having a job that pays enough and allows enough time to do this is a great situation to be in. One of the reasons to work in public accounting is to gain the skills and experience to move into the situation you have. But you do you.

I am selling into these pops on psth. 50/50 chance the target disappoints the stripe crew and it dips hard. I’ll be buying a bunch of that is the case. Beware- 2/9th warrants are still attached to these shares so there is some premium in the price

like

Trimmed some psth this morning. I don’t like that stripe did a $100b raise without needing ackman. I think this merges with a long term winner but will be able to add back at lower prices before merger and still receive the 2/9 warrants

I joined a new team and have noticed something off with my Director over the last months (slurring speech, no show to calls or even full days of work). I finally asked a colleague about it today because I’m concerned about my Director. She confirmed that she’s noticed the same over the last few years, but no one ever says anything. In confidence she told me she can often smell alcohol. How can I help? I feel helpless. I’ve already lost someone to addiction and I can’t ignore this. Any advice?

Busy season never seems to end. Question, am I burned out or is this normal? I was very stressed during busy season until now. I sort of feel a calm sense of not caring anymore. We have extended our busy season until 5/15, but I really just don’t feel like I care...

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

If your an experienced staff or senior with hedge- fund experience and want to move to Dallas, DM me to discuss discretely. Honestly great team. Turnover has been low for last 18 months at 10%. Compared to 40-50% in other places. Crazy hours feb-apr, 40 apr-jul, 45 in Aug, maybe 50-60 that last week of aug/ early sept. <40 post 9/15. We have a need at the senior level to fill a gap. Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
