I’ve been told that I need to “communicate more” at work or looked down upon for my “attitude”, when I’ve tried to kindly explain that I’m just introverted (everyone else on my team is EXTREMELY extroverted / hangs out all the time inside and outside work)
Anyone else had to deal with this personality clash at work?

Yes, many times. Since explaining and defending my introversion to multiple managers over the years, now I immediately, eagerly, and excitedly respond with a short and snarky response (any one of the following).

1) Since most folks have two ears, and only one mouth, I tend to believe that some people should listen more and interrupt less.

2) I appreciate your point of view on the subject, though I really don’t feel the need to interject my personal perspective on XYZ, for the sole reason of being vocal.

3) Why? Are you telling me that you’re actually influenced and sincerely, genuinely impressed with the same associate that feel it their responsibility necessary for them to add their personal act views and feelings on every agenda item at the meeting? I thought it was common knowledge by now, 2023, that, generally speaking, the associates who exhibit this shallow, immature, and self-aggrandizing behavior are ultimately proven to be weakest associates.

4)

You don't need to explain yourself to people or be something you're not. "I'm not comfortable with that" is plenty explanation. People think being introverted is some kind of insult -- but small talk is tiring, so is gossip. You don't need to be one of them.

Be you . You don't have to engage with all actively . Over time , they'll get to know your personality . Help in indirect ways :)

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)
