I’ve been working full time for the past four years and getting my masters part time for the past three years. School is done first week of May and I’m super burnt out at work. Interviewing with KPMG EY PwC for consulting, one with a partner referral if that matters, and feeling confident about my interviews.

My question: Should I quit my current job as soon as I have a signed offer or only have a week or two off? I’m also planning to move out of the northeast to Texas or California.

I would quit as soon as I have my offer if I were you. Enjoy your time. You’re not going to get that much time off as you please once you start working again.

like

If you’re feeling burnt out, the sooner you can quit the better. It’s hard to take big chunks of time off once you start working like S1 said so forget all the serious adult finance stuff and just relax for a bit.

like

Thanks for your thoughts. Definitely makes sense, especially as I’ll most likely be moving across the country for early June.

On a separate note if you have a minute. I’m coming from the non-profit world, is there anything you would suggest I do to mentally prepare for joining the consulting world?

I also agree. Just use the time to rest before doing the next big thing. Then give yourself another month or two to learn the ropes without fear or pressure on your part. Transition will ease and fall into place once you got the right mindset down. All the best!

I understand how that feels, OP. Sometimes it's difficult to gauge how we're doing since the real world outside of school no longer has any standard we can use as reference. I guess having other people's perspectives can help with that. Glad to help and I wish you the best of luck!

like

Quit as soon as you can. You will be glad you did when you start the new role with enough energy to dive into it.

like

Definitely sounds like you need a break and you should absolutely take one as soon as your next gig is lined up. You can also use relocating as a reason to push a start date back and likely as an easier out from your current job.

Additional Posts in Career Advice for Students

I am a graduating student who just got offered 65k for a solution analyst role at Deloitte USDC (Data Engineering Focus). From reading previous posts it seems to be a lot of negative thoughts surrounding the USDC, but straight out of college is this a good opportunity?

I'm looking to gain as much experience as possible out of college in an IT role and wondering what exit opportunities may be in place a year or two down the road if there is little/slow progression.

Any Advice?

recently asked a question about going to law school with an accounting degree. follow up on that- if i work 1-2 years at my current firm (offered 72,500 full time after graduating undergrad) and acquire my cpa (courses and exam fees paid for by the firm), then apply to law school, would that be more beneficial? ive been reading a lot that work experience helps with the application, alongside having a high gpa and LSAT score

What’s the best way to get in contact with the hiring team if I want to follow up on an application, if no contact info is on the application site?
