Rapid tests have never been that reliable and the regular tests need a several days after exposure and/or symptomatic (which guessing coughing would qualify) to be accurate. There are also a lot of colds and allergies right now which makes everything more tough.
There’s a cough going around and everyone is like 😯👀
Personal anecdote. My husband tested positive on a rapid test in March after 10 days of what he thought was a sinus infection. I took a rapid test the same day and tested negative. That night, I started coughing. Four days later, I took a PCR and it came back positive.
It takes time for symptoms to develop / for you to catch covid, and rapid tests are less accurate than PCR (false negatives are rampant).
My goodness. That’s terrifying. Truly curious how you all were exposed to it too!

i googled it with the same concern and read the 1 day test does not effectively capture positive tests for delta variant
Google it. People here know very little compared to healthcare professionals.
My family is in healthcare. Figure I’d get some entertainment on here first before revealing to them how ignorant I am on this topic 😂 I will eventually do a Google binge

Did they get tested 4-6 days after exposure? If you get tested too early, the recommendation is to get PCR test after 5 days of exposure to be safe. Quarantine and avoid indoor activities in the meantime.
Not too sure but certainly a good point to raise. What concerned me most was this person was in Provincetown prior to coming back with the symptoms.
What do you all know about the accuracy of the saliva based tests through Vault Health?
I got sick back in Feb 2020 but before we were really testing for COVID like that. Have had a cough ever since. Not sure if it was COVID or not but could be a long haulers symptom.
I definitely think testing too early is not catching it. I tested rapid & pcr within 2 days of symptoms (had family in the hospital and needed to be sure I wasn't infecting anyone). Both came back negative, but there's no other reasonable explanation for my symptoms.
I quarantined until I got my results and even still never returned to the hospital and stayed home + masked up around the house. I'm fully vaccinated and as described, everything was very mild after the first 2 days. But it makes me so concerned that we still don't have anything quick enough because others won't be that cautious and they'll unknowingly spread it.
I should also say, I've heard of people getting expired testing kits. So the data is skewed.
