Make a list of every task that needs to be done for the day.
Reorder that list in order of importance.
Start on the first, most important task in that list.
Once that task has been completed, cross off that task, and begin on the second task.
Keep repeating this process of completing and crossing off tasks in sequential order until there are no more tasks to cross off.
If you failed to cross off every item on that list, by the end of the day, reflect on the cause(s) of the situation.
Look at what you learned and see what you can do better. Consider what you can change to improve the chances of completing everything on your list the next time around.
Thanks for breaking it down! I appreciate it. Sometimes, these thought processes that seem normal for others don't feel quite so normal for me....
I used to have detailed and prioritized task lists, but I learned the hard way that if I couldn't get them all done by 9am, other emergencies and priorities got in the way. I would work on the top items and make sure to get them done, and the bottom (low priority) items would get pushed off day after day until they become emergencies later in the week. It was far too inefficient.
Google Calendar
Seriously, I’d probably forget to eat, pick my kids up, or blow up a moon that was paid for in advance if it weren’t for Google Calendar. Everything goes in there and if it’s not on the calendar, it doesn’t get done.
Good reminder to start using mine more again!
It’s almost impossible that all the tasks with the same due date have the same priority level. That’s why the first thing I usually do is to sort them to how much of the attention they require. Also, if it’s possible to delegate the less important tasks, I don’t hesitate.
Thanks! :)
Just make a checklist and stop procrastinating. Even though you have your calendar and your checklist but if you chose to do things later when you can actually do them now, then you will always get behind. Make a checklist and strictly follow them. Let it serve its purpose.
This is a real struggle, to be honest. It took me almost a year to finally be able to organize my tasks.
Make sure you stick with your calendar schedule. It would be messy later on if you insert tasks in between. You'll get the hang of it!
