I’ve screwed up my career, it started out strong by getting a corp. engineering job that got me several promotions and pay increases for 4 years. But I became all consumed, loose with my complaints, and got involved with politics. I quit and joined a small company a year ago. I wasn’t prepared at all to handle the expectations of the multi full-time roles that make the small company survive and expand. Now on thin ice, salvaging myself doesn’t feel possible. I’m depressed and at a loss.

Got an agent and she was useless for finding good tenants. Got frustrated and finally started finding leads myself and closing on one soon. How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine. It’s not magic, just ignorance about the machine actually works. How to I get a manager to stop caring about the end product long enough for me to actually teach them about their own machine?

How long did it take you to lose interest in your job?

Only a few of the engineers I've met have been antisocial, and it seems like such people are represented fairly evenly across different careers. I'm not really sure why that misconception still exists
