I’ve screwed up my career, it started out strong by getting a corp. engineering job that got me several promotions and pay increases for 4 years. But I became all consumed, loose with my complaints, and got involved with politics. I quit and joined a small company a year ago. I wasn’t prepared at all to handle the expectations of the multi full-time roles that make the small company survive and expand. Now on thin ice, salvaging myself doesn’t feel possible. I’m depressed and at a loss.

This is very similar to my own career path. All I can say is lean in to learning as much as you can with this small company, but don't stop keeping an eye out for your next opportunity.

My first week in the new smaller place I knew it wasn't for me, and I spent the next year interviewing about once a month until I found something better aligned. I believe the many hats experience widened my engineering perspectives though.

Good luck!

You have the option to find a role that fits your skill set. You can try talking to your current company and see if there is a better role but it sounds like they are running with scissors. Therefore, be open to find a less stressful job. Health is worth a lower salary.

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

I received a message on LinkedIn from an internal recruiter at a company that sounded intriguing. Would it be bad form to ask for more information about the role and about comp up front? I wasn’t looking to leave my firm until later next year at the earliest, but the company sounds really interesting. Don’t want to waste a lot of time if the comp isn’t right, though.

Does anyone else feel that the more content someone puts in their LinkedIn headline, the more full of it they are? I say this as someone with a bunch of stuff lol but at least it’s all at one company and accurate.

I’m talking mostly about two kinds of people. 1. The influencer who is actually unemployed, but lists 25 BS things they do
2. The brand collector, who writes “ex-“ for every former company they worked at and school they went to. Maybe less full of it but still insufferable.

I've been thinking about my career a lot lately. I feel like I've hit a wall, and I don't know how to get past it.
