Not IVF, but I gained 10 in the first trimester & 35-40 ish total. Don’t panic. I gained more at the beginning than the end.
Rising Star
I gained a lot of weight from fertility treatments in the year before my pregnancy, but not anything in the first trimester and only 15 pounds for the whole pregnancy, mostly at the very end.
For what it’s worth, not gaining enough was really stressful and I had to get a number of special scans to make sure it wasn’t intrauterine growth restriction (which can cause some really scary things for the baby).
Pregnancy weight gain isn’t linear and everyone gains at different rates and times throughout the pregnancy. I gained 14lbs in the first trimester and was terrified I was going to get huge. I ended up only gaining 30lbs total. I worked out consistently my entire pregnancy and never changed my eating habits - my body just needed the extra weight earlier.
I gained 18lb in first trimester, it was awful and I was horrified because I was really picky about my weight pre-pregnancy. I think it was because I had to eat carbs all day long due to constant nausea. I ended up gaining about 50lb during pregnancy but 5 months afterward I only have 12lb more to lose
Also - not an IVF pregnancy, if it matters
I never heard anything from my doc regarding weight gain being higher for IVF. I think everyone is different so as long as your doc isn’t concerned - that’s really all that matters. I only wanted like.. Asian noodles so maybe you’re just having water weight. Regardless.. it’s a good idea to listen to what your body needs / wants and when you get to the 2nd trimester - eat all the delicious things (minus stuff you shouldn’t) before the heartburn hits. Good luck!
Not sure of the numbers, but I gained weight in my first trimester because my nausea was worse on an empty stomach, and I ate a lot of potato chips. I gained at a faster rate in my second trimester but it slowed significantly in my third trimester and stopped entirely the last few weeks. I think the baby was just too big for me to be hoovering down plates anymore… 🤷♀️
Mine were both IVF pregnancies, and I was on a lot of progesterone and estrogen until 13 weeks (plus all the hormones my body was starting to make). I think that could make a difference compared to a natural pregnancy

I was just complaining about my weight to my husband this morning - I'm still in the first trimester and have gained almost 10 pounds and I'm only 7 weeks. Sometimes I think I'm having twins because of how quickly my body is expanding lol. Eating habits haven't changed much, I eat a lot of soup and bread to combat nausea but aside from that, diet is pretty clean. I've accepted that my body is going to do what it needs to do to nourish the growing life inside of me so I'm just going to roll with the punches and lose the weight once I have the baby.
I don’t think that my IVF pregnancy was much different than my non-IVF pregnancy, other than some lack of appetite in the beginning of my current (IVF) pregnancy. I’d say I lost a few pounds initially and have gained those back, but am net probably up 1 lb. Currently 15 wks.
Why would IVF yield different pregnancy weight gain? Either way, I gained 10 in the first trimester for both kids. Total of 40lbs with first boy, 70 lbs total with second girl 🥲. I ate the same for both. And it all came off for both. You will be okay! And your body will do whatever it wants to!
Oh yeah.. everyone’s on different journeys but breastfeeding is awesome! I weigh less than I did pre pregnancy and look like a hot mama. 😂🥰 but yeah.. hopefully you’re able to enjoy this journey!
I gained 90 lbs during my IVF pregnancy and 3 months PP I still need to lose another 60. Idk what I did but send help 🥴
No 🫣. My diet was not good I’ll admit. I gained around 40-50lbs for my other natural pregnancies. But I was older this time around so really don’t know.
I think it is the extra hormones.
I feel like that isn't even that much for the first trimester...
