Take couple of days off from everything. Try to come to peace with it. Nothing was your fault. Truth Is we are mostly just a number for our companies. Update your resume, and refresh your LinkedIn and connections. You will find a great role before you know it. The very same thing happened to me few years ago (100% + utilization, great reviews,...). I know it's hard for you to see it right now, but looking back it was one the best things that has happened to my career.
Thanks Manager1
OP: I was laid off exactly the same way from Advisory in PwC in October despite good snapshots and good ratings. Was my milestone year too. First - finish all the exit formalities that include phone, laptop, badge, if you are on H1 then immigration formalities, experience letter as well as other important papers needed. Back up the contacts list if you want to keep in touch with some ‘nice’ ppl in firm. Secondly, take a break for a week or 2 and start circulating your resume in job portals, career sites, linkedin. Start applying and brush up your resume. You have PwC on resume and you will find something very soon. Good luck
Senior consultant thanks for the breakdown of actual activities
I got laid off in June, at the time I was heart broken, looking back it’s the best thing that could have happened.
OP - what level? The people I know who were laid off in summer received 2-3 months and bonus.
When times are tough and headcount needs to be cut... anyone on the bench, soon to be on the bench, or staffed outside of a practice area, is at a high probability of getting let go.
Sue them!
Thanks, I needed a good laugh. Made those who I am out with laugh as well. Tough guy hiding behind your keyboard. Take that resentment and entitlement to your client on Monday and see how far it gets you or Monday night when you are polishing your participation ribbons from grade school. Must be difficult for you to look in the mirror. I can not imagine having all that built up anger and resentment. No need to respond I have already moved on.
Talk to an employment attorney, not us. We’re not experts in anything but ‘consulting.’ And in this scenario —your snapshots, your real time FB and rewards, take PDFs of all of it. Anything speaking to your utilization, performance, development, pension/savings, rewards. You may need data for the future regardless of if you go the attorney route or just need documentation for your next big goal. Many people are leaving. Feel good you’re taking a package with you.
^Agree, speak to an employment attorney. “Employment at will” doesn’t mean anything. It was put in place to promote small businesses, not to be misused by well capped companies
So you think an employer should be required to keep employees? Should employers be required to stay? Sounds a little Atlas Shrugged to me. Employment at Will means just that. You can be fired or laid-off at any time, for any reason, explanation or warning. Unless one is in a protected class you can be terminated. I have been laid off and have not contemplated suing. I was just promoted to director so assume my performance was adequate at a minimum. Sometimes there are strategies change and the demands of the firm change. M4 are you European by chance? Your comment sounds very socialist
OP, are you MC TC or Strat?
Were you staffed or on bench ?
Fully staffed on project haven’t spent a day on the bench...!
Were you on work visa?
Happened to me too. Keep your head up, brother.
Need to know which specific area op is working don’t think entire FS is doing bad.
Sorry to hear that. PwC needs to change
No offense but here I am with sub par snapshots and I am just about to take a month vacation ! God help me.
I was CM
Sorry to hear that, were you staffed in projects within your team/ competency or we're you working with other teams?
Was staffed the whole time on projects outside of my team
Well said PwC 7, let me clarify that I never claimed that you should fight every lay-off. You have a good point that OP should step back and assess the situation. If she/he strongly feels that there has been a truly unfair decision - discrimination etc, then there is no reason not to take legal action that has been designed to protect members of society. Of course, if it’s a reduction-in-force and OP was picked in a fair way, and all others were treated the same, then absolutely, it’s a fact of life! Move on and focus your energy on the next opportunity by all means.
Where did you land ? Or from where to where did your salary jump?
Congrats, nicely done. Are you still with consulting or switched to industry now?
Congrats for end result. What are the severance benefits?
