Some people just equate Texas to low cost when Austin is basically HCOL in terms of housing costs.
Texas is HCOL but without the services!
It’s not - that would be a blessing and a half right now
$4200 rent and $230k base
A $2k monthly payment for mortgage and everything else is insanely cheap.
Anyone who thinks that is a lot of money probably bought 30 years ago and is out of touch with the reality of how expensive everything is nowadays
Thank you! I was so confused with the commenters saying 2k is a lot
Does that number include taxes and insurance? If so I am right there with you, but in Dallas
I would say that is almost cheap being in Austin. I have heard nothing good about finding housing down there.
Pro
That pretty close to triple what I pay
This person must live in Des Moines or something
I’d actually say that’s on the lower end in a city like Austin. Married, $300k TC, $500k+ combined income, with $3800 mortgage payment. (Mortgage, tax, insurance, HOA)
I Pay $1900 in mind town Dallas for 2 bedroom
$2k is awesome for a mortgage! I’m at $2,800 for my mortgage, tax, and insurance for a 4,500 sq. ft. townhouse in Baltimore
My mortgage payment (w/ tax & ins) is $1680 in Dallas suburb. $2k in Austin sounds like the low end tbh.
My PITI is $6500 in austin if it makes you feel any better
It does. Thank you, and I’m sorry
This sounds pretty standard. I rent in Atlanta and pay $1700 for a 1bed/1bath.
Salary is 135k
Nice, that’s pretty good nowadays
A nice 1 bed condo or apartment in Atlanta is about the same. $2,000-$2,200
I’m never moving out. I can’t afford these prices
Ooof let’s not even talk about the Bay Area
You all have insane rent prices. Va with a $2900 mortgage, 5 bd, 5 ba, 5,000 sq ft. 2 hours from DC
I bought it in feb 2021 literally like weeks before rates jumped for just under 3%. I own another house I bought in 2014 for around 2% that i refinanced a couple years ago to around 1%. I’ve gotten lucky in timing but totally understand why people aren’t buying now with the current interest rates.
2k in Austin (downtown) is cheap. I have friends paying close to 3k for a 1br
Can’t buy a house now because interest rates. But I $1050 for one bedroom split with partner so around $500.
