NFTs deserve to die. Just a scam.
NFTs are now called Web3 and are (confusingly) alive and well in that form. A good portion of the recruiter mail I get is this, even though I've never worked with blockchain in my life. Best yet, I still have no idea what Web3 actually is because no one can explain it.
That's all apart from plain old NFT auction markets which are definitely still kickin'.
On the other hand, the Metaverse never even became a thing. The hardware for adoption wasn't there and still isn't. Exactly one company tried to make it a thing, chased it unsuccessfully, and recently admitted defeat.
As to ChatGPT, it deserves every bit of hype it gets. The applications are very tangible in every single job out there, the tech is ready to go, and there are no obvious problems apart from individual consumers' lack of imagination. Domain specific personal assistants at least as smart as a new grad are here. That's a very big deal.
