If you aren’t up to speed with how the platforms are being used, and able to craft compelling work for them, that’s a problem. YOU don’t need to be posting, but you better know what’s culturally relevant on them and what brands are doing it well. Same as it has always been. Know the channels and how to create great work on them.
I should have clarified in my original post that, I was on TikTok but wasn’t actively looking on it like I was Instagram (again, 5 years ago)

Yes. So many applications ask about this. Recently I started an application and it wouldn’t let me submit without entering my Instagram handle. I know it’s not a big deal but it seemed invasive. I don’t think one should be required to have an Insta account to be considered for any role - in my case it’s not like the role was head of social content or anything.
How many paid mental health days off is your employer allowing you to take for being chronically online before you chronically burn out?
Vml used to have unlimited sick days, then they rebranded them into wellness days, and then they told us we only need 10 of them to be well.

IMO, One of the most significant issues with our industry currently is chasing media instead of compelling ideas. Do you need to know how TikTok works and what is working on it? Sure. There are resources for that that do not require you yourself being chronically on TikTok. More importantly, if I asked you to hold up a finger for every fortune 100 brand that’s kicking ass on TikTok, you’d be flipping me off.
The realistic odds that your innovative creativity is going to be needed to make breakthrough TikTok’s is near zero. It’s the medium equivalent of needing to have car experience to work on a car brand. Nonsense.

Kind of. More and more of media spend is on social, so not knowing trends, hooks used, and how to unlearn traditional tv storytelling is important. I hate social so much, but half of our media spend is on it. It’s literally a reason I want to get the fuck out soon. It’s not fun anymore it’s tacky hacks to get people to “stop scrolling”.
Yup, understanding online culture is just another thing we have to add to the list of skills now
