It matters how much money the industry is making and how much they want to give out to attract people. Tech is generally more lucrative than retail, even if the tasks are similar.

I agree, Two jobs can require the same skills, but if one industry’s raking in more profit, they’re usually willing to pay way more to keep talent.
Yeah, I get what you are saying, and it's the industry, hands down. Tech, finance, and healthcare usually pay more: admin or not. When I was in sales, my comp jumped 40% just by moving to a fintech startup. If your skills are transferable (and they likely are), start targeting higher-paying sectors now.

True. Sometimes it’s not about changing what you do, just where you do it. Same skills in a different sector can feel like a whole new pay grade.
I do think job titles matter. My friend was able to get a job as a senior tech project manager simply because of titles she had before. I think its a mixture of both the industry and the role.
