You have to look for the wins. No matter how small, no matter how insignificant. I let myself be excited about the small moments. I share these moments with my coworkers or my family, even if they think they don’t matter, it reminds me I enjoy my job.
This week I showed Freedom Writers. One of my more challenging students loved it and raved about the movie. I’ve literally never seen him so engaged for such an extended period of time. That was my win that day, and it warmed my heart. I choose to focus on that moment rather than the little mistakes I made throughout the day, or the annoying situation with a coworker, etc.
I am thankful for the kiddos that I see who give me hugs and tell me how much they love me. It brightens my spirit.
I have a student that graduated in 2016 come visit me yesterday. She brought me a banner from UT Dallas to sign and put on my wall of fame. 4 years later and she still remembered and cared. Getting a degree in neuroscience and physics, told me I am still the best classroom teacher she has ever had and my calc AB course held up all the way through her degree. Thanked me for keeping my day 1 promise of a world class education in math; and she still repeats to herself "hard work pays off."
If that all isn't a win, I don't know what is.
That is amazing and what a testament to your teaching!
My students send me photos. It really makes me smile. I feel basked in the love of the world wide family of educators. I am AWED by the strength and willingness to share.
One of my paras and a co-teacher we’re talking outside my door. One remarked that I was a superstar and the other agreed and repeated the sentiment. I definitely needed to hear something positive about myself this year. I’m lucky to work with the teachers I do.
