I was in IT audit at PwC. External audit and SOC 1&2. Some IA and other controls consulting as well. Most of what I did at the firm has nothing to do with what I do now. Skills are relevant though - run a meeting, lead a team, influence people, get stuff done, etc. My team now is some data governance, some access controls, third party risk management - a mix of a number of things. Being flexible in various services in B4 has helped me adapt. Average performers in B4 tend to be significantly above average in industry.
Technology risk management is a good path. I left at director but there are similar jobs at manager. In my experience B4 skills were highly valued. Needs to be a large company in a regulated industry. I went to a large bank. Good variety of work and excellent work/life balance.
