Crossroads Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. I have been with the organization almost 6 years and have accomplished achievement of my MSL (Masters Strategic Leadership) and LOVE the organization…BUT…I am not having any success in moving into a new position…my interviews are great experiences but it seems to be a pattern of not being selected yet encouraged to continue applying…received information from a mentor/manager to ask for candid feedback…when is enough…ENOUGH??
Advice needed - boyfriend has almost 3.5 years of finance experience at a bank. Interviewed for PwC valuation senior associate and now recruiter says they want to hire him at “experienced associate” because he has no valuation experience. Is this too big of a step backwards in career? Should he push back and see if it gets him anywhere? If he does accept Associate, is it reasonable to ask for written, definitive timeline (1 year?) for promo to Senior upon meeting standards? Help!

Certifications aren’t helpful. Just get hands-on experience
None of the UX designers I work with in tech have a certification. I’d think a portfolio of work is more important. Perhaps list of what you’ve used. E.g Figma

UX does not seem to be paid well; you may promote more your business domain skill
Don't run after certifications at the end of the day its the experience that counts.
Very helpful thank you! I will definitely start by putting together a portfolio of my work.
If it’s UX research there could be courses to take as most on the job learning will be narrowed down to what that org “rinses and repeats” and you should want a more comprehensive tool box so to speak.
You’ll be competing and interviewing with people who have masters and PhDs in research so you will want to hold your own.
Most UX research and UX design jobs require a portfolio.

PhDs aren’t going for UX design roles, they definitely go for UXR though
The hardest part about breaking into UX is gaining real world experience - skip the bootcamp and crank out a killer portfolio.
