I'm a big fan of collecting transferrable points for high value redemptions. With that perspective, I think the Chase family of consumer cards offers a really easy package for earning rewards from the spend you probably do every day. The Chase Sapphire Reserve combined with the Chase Freedom flex give fantastic coverage on various spend categories (Travel 3x, Dining 3x, 5x rotating categories, 3x on Drugstores). Additionally, between the two cards, you get the built in benefits of a Visa Infinite card (CSR), and a World Elite MasterCard (Flex). Full disclosure, I hold several Amex cards too and the only reason I'm not recommending them is because Chase has unique restrictions around card acquisition velocity that Amex does not, making them more strategic early on applying for cards.
I’d say for groceries, American Express Blue Cash Preferred - you will get 6% on groceries, including Instacart (which I use for Costco). I am also actually a fan of Chase Freedom Unlimited which currently, in my opinion, offers better perks than Chase Sapphire because it offers 3x on dining and 1.5x on all other purchases and has no annual fee. I almost stopped using my Sapphire since they updated Freedom one. But I can send you referral for all three 🙂
To add, even though I don’t recommend Sapphire at this point, it does have a nice sign-up bonus of up to $750 if used toward travel ($600 if used for cash back). But if you only have two credit cards, you might not get approved for it, so you have higher chances with Chase Freedom which has lower sign-up bonus but is well worth it with upgrades they made recently
