I’m a young engineer who utilized the company’s tuition reimbursement program and need to stay with the company for a year but today my boss’s boss was laid off along with 10 engineers in my group. I’m afraid to be next and want to start interviewing and applying but I’m going to owe Thermo $40K for that. What should I do? My gut is telling me to leave but financially I can’t afford to pay them this much.

Have an offer to start at Deloitte in July in Org Transformation consulting. If it doesn’t get pushed out because of the virus, is it a good time to switch firms in July? Concerned that layoffs may be imminent if I am so new to the firm. I will be coming in at the Consultant level if that matters.

How long can you go without having anything to do before you get laid off?

M/SM and above, why do you label a meeting as “touch point” or ask if you can have a “quick chat” when it’s something serious? Millennials like us always assume we’re about to get fired - I actually have been laid off in a meeting with that title. But at my new job, my boss asked for a “quick chat” to literally ask me to change the title of a meeting and then chat about christmas. Now that I’m in management, I want to understand it better.

Adverse selection is a huge issue in trading. You never have perfect information and your decision won’t be perfect for the outcome. This usually means you’re too small in winners and too large in losers.

As markets crash we’re seeing something similar. People are ignoring bad outcomes when they should be working that much harder to protect previous gains and find new ideas. Lower traffic in this thread is a symptom of this phenomenon. Don’t quit just as the value of incremental effort ramps.
