Definitely underpaid. PMI has a salary report. Off the top of my head you should be aleast 120. If I were you I’d be looking for 130-140. Don’t bother internally just start applying
I'm assuming a project consultant is like a program/project manager? If so, your comp is criminally low for your years of experience. Start looking for a new job. The market is shit right now but if you can land something, you'll be at $150k+ total comp.
For clarification, I started off 8 years ago as a junior project manager for IT infrastructure projects. 3 to 4 years later, I was promoted to project consultant (software development). I was promoted again, one year ago to senior project consultant (software development).
Should be double that with your experience and background
I'm an Infrastructure Operations Manager for Accenture Federal based out of Arlington office. Fully remote project (I moved to Frederick MD). 9 YOE, Associates Degree with a 155k base salary. Been here my entire career out of college (started at 50k). Look around. Unfortunately not a great Tech job market at the moment but I'd be applying left and right in your shoes. DC area is too expensive for that salary with your YOE.
WLB is pretty chill. I usually don't work more than 40 hours a week and when I do, I can flex time off the next week. Bonus is between 10-25% depending on performance (assuming you can get lower but I haven't been ranked that low yet). I manage a team of 25 Cloud Infrastructure Engineers (6 subs) of varying experience and skill levels and they are pretty great.
Clarification. You are underpaid compared to salaries at big consulting firms. If you work at a smaller company with more work life balance then you are prob paid the same as others there. But bigger firms where you will get lost will 100% pay you more and probably easily go above $125.
Consultant 1, which industries do you cover, and what is your specialization, if any? The answers depend greatly on your focus and where you want to be. The shotgun approach is not really the best way to illustrate your depth or focus.
The problem is that you worked at the same place for 8 years. Should have left at least 4 years ago, preferably 6
Nothing wrong with working at the same place to learn. You got the experience. Now go sell yourself.
This, exactly. You have a great depth of knowledge that someone will pay for.
For reference, I’m 15 years in IT industry, PM for 8. $215K base + 20% bonus based on company performance. Full benefits.
Agree with M1. Try to get into FAANG to level it out tbh. I’m at 3-4ish years of experience with a masters in info systems, at about $230k total comp in Austin.
$150k base, the rest in stock and bonus.
I had a sort of similar background and was at $150k in industry with that experience level. Now I’ve switched to B4 and I’m over $100k more.
You are seriously underpaid, would suggest only applying external to catch up the fastest.
Get a new job ASAP! FAANG will pay you so much more. I probably work between 30-50 hr per week tho
I have a similar background but with 8 years experience. I’m currently interviewing for new jobs and the one where I’m furthest in the process has a comp range of 125-150. If I get it I expect at a minimum 135K. Hope that helps. You should probably look for a new gig.
ouch that's low
Maybe get a job from a larger consulting firm. A manager level could get you anywhere between 150-300 depending on firms and practice areas
