Westin Josun is centrally located but a little dated. JW Marriott is nicer but less central. Uber won’t work out there, they have their own local app called Kakao Taxi. Subways are cheap, easy to navigate, and well connected. Also, traffic can be terrible, so cabs not necessarily faster unless it’s late at night. The food scene is great but changing all the time, so my info is likely dated.
Uber definitely works in Seoul.
I hear beauty and skin care products are things to not miss out there
Incheon is the main international airport. Gimpo is primarily for domestic travel.
Seoul is massive. What part of Seoul you staying in?
Subway is the best way to get around. Your Uber app will also work although it gets automatically changed to a local app Uber has a partnership with.
I stayed in Myeongdong at the Four Points. The location was near the bus stop to/from Incheon airport. GMP is closer to Seoul I believe but you're typically going to have international flights through ICN. I was only in Seoul for 2-3 days and I think the location was good for a first time but would consider other neighborhoods for later.
The hotel was near the shopping and night market area - if you like skincare, check out Olive Young. The one in Myeongdong I found to be busy but had more stuff than some others.
If you like history, go check out the palaces. There's a few night markets that are worth checking out with different opinions, but one became popular because of a Netflix doc. I had friends who got in early and did a food tour and enjoyed that.
Insa-dong was a more traditional area and I believe it was near some really cute cafes.
Since you don't have a lot of time, I would pick a few neighborhoods that are nearby to each other and explore those. We didn't get a chance to go to a bunch of the places we wanted because of time and the jet lag.
I went this year in March 2024. We got the T-money card that we were only able to reload with cash. I think they may have tap to pay but it's for Korean credit cards/Samsung (but not 100% sure)
Consider the tour of the DMZ on the border. Ask your hotel in advance to find you an English guide with good language skills and a driver. 60 miles north of Seoul. Wall, tunnels N. Korea built that are huge and were discovered. Great film with explanation. 1/2 day trip.
I’ve just come back from Seoul today! Myeongdong is a great place to stay - unfortunately most of the Marriotts are not in great locations, I think someone mentioned the JW Marriott above - this is probably the best one?
On transport, Uber does work (I used it to get around when I cba to subway), but subway is easy to use. As someone said above, topping up the card is cash only in subway stations.
