Suit supply!
That's a solid budget. You can go to a Nordstrom and snag a Ted Baker with tailoring for around 750ish, depending if there's a sale or not. I'm in Philly and I got my Ted Bakers at the Nordstrom at the Cherry Hill Mall. There's no tax on clothes in NJ/PA.
Suit Supply did a great job for me in the past (atypical frame - needed made to measure)
DC Custom Clothiers
It’s made to measure, and more importantly the guy who runs it knows how to measure for a suit. I haven’t really checked out suit supply before so I can’t compare, but prices are competitive imo

I go to Jos a bank

Suits get so beat up with travel. I just got a bunch of slimmer jos a bank ones and had them fully adjusted.
Agree, for that amount Nordstrom is the place to go. Not sure about others, but I feel like Jos A Banks' quality of material has gone down over the years, seems cheap for the price.
Macy’s or any department store generally has pretty great tailors who have been around a while in the suit department who will be very helpful in fitting and tailoring. You’re probably better off spending 400 on a suit and 200 on tailoring than 800 on a suit.
I don't know about Macy. Usually cheap blends. For that price range I'd go for a Nordstrom sale.
I just buy whatever fits decent off the rack (and on sale) then I take it to my tailor for finishing. I’ve never spent over $500 on a single suit.
Has anyone ever bought a custom suit from Suit supply?
Yes, it's my favourite suit. Custom tailored and everything. I think I paid 500-600

You could try Sene - I personally didn't like their standard fabric, but it may be worth a try for you, and they have a good return policy.
I know you said no to Indochino, but they have great quality, options and fit. Would reconsider if you are open to it
