I am a 3rd year senior associate in alternative investment tax and up for manager promotion this year. I really dislike the long hours of this job and seeking to make a move. Although I’m not sure i necessarily want to stay in tax. I have a young toddler at home and want to find a job i like, makes decent money, and has decent hours so i can spend more time with family.

I’ve completed the first interview with the hiring manager and a colleague, and have been fortunate to get to the next stage but im unsure how to prepare. I’ve done the usual compentencies, strengths and weaknesses and company research. Studied accounting and finance but worried about the future of this profession. Currently working in Forensic Consulting but want to leave. One- I am a woman in a male dominated industry, I didn't go to a prestigious school like most of my peers and I just didn't think I deserved to be there. I’m a part-time MBA student at a top 25 program and have 13 years of work experience, mostly in government contracting, with a few deviations from the industry. Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Understanding that the degreed person committed to school and finished, yet that doesn't diminish what the not degreed has committed to and accomplished in their careers. This has to stop!

What has your experience been with new job offers and counter offers from current employers? In my opinion, if I’m looking to leave it is because I’m unhappy and excited about the new role I’ve been offered. I’ve never been interested in a counter offer and it seems like it would ruin relationships with both employers. Interested to hear others opinions!
