Amex gold would be the sweet spot since you’re already in the Amex ecosystem. There’s referrals out there with 90k SUB + $200 statement credit to essentially make the card free for a few years if you leverage Uber/Uber eats + grub hub benefits.
4x in grocery + restaurant made it my most used card the last 6months
Amex gold + Capital One venture

Get a Chase Sapphire card. You're missing out on not capitalizing UR points.

It depends on your spending and traveling habits. The CSR has a pretty easy travel credit and GrubHub credits to offset a huge chunk of the annual fee. But if you don't see yourself traveling or using the credits, the CSP is $99, which is pretty negligible compared to the sign up bonus.
But I get much better mileage from UR points than MR points. I hate hunting for award flights, so I have around 350k MR points sitting and doing nothing. On the other hand, I burned through close to 1m UR points in the last 3 years because it's easier to find high end Hyatt redemptions.
What do you want to get out of it? Cash back? Miles?
I really like my CapOne savor - 4% on restaurants and 3% on groceries. 10% cash back on Uber eats. $95 annual fee.
I hear you SC! I’ve had the Amex plat for almost 10 years. But can’t get the value there on dining and entrainment, which are my top expenses aside from rent.
I’d recommend getting the Amex gold as it has a good sign up bonus and it fits your criteria of multipliers for restaurants/groceries. Next up I’d look at chase sapphire preferred. It seems like they are bringing 80-90k sign up bonuses back and then I’d get the freedom flex and freedom unlimited as well. Having those with your current setup will be deadly. Happy to provide additional thoughts, I help tons of people with figuring out the credit card setup/plan.
Citi premier is pretty solid day—to-day for your categories, and you can get the double cash for everything else
Not so much. I’ve the card - just 3x versus 4x on Amex gold. No purchase or travel protection either.

Chase sapphire. I can refer!

Fwiw-the CSP has a 90k a sub available in branch only if you’re leaning a chase route. The offer will likely be available online later this spring
I would get the Chase Freedom unlimited card as it’s a great every day earner. Later on I would get one of the sapphire cards to maximize your points. The freedoms have 5X back on groceries for a year right now which is rumored to be ending soon so now would be a good time to sign up for that card. If you apply and get it expedited you’ll be able to get 9X back on any purchases through March on groceries. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions or for a referral
I’ve no idea about others, but I believe that for dining and groceries, Amex gold seems to the best card out there. Card is technically free with $120 Ubereats and $120 Grubhub annual credits. I place pickup orders, so almost pay nothing extra on meal orders. If you’ve a corporate Amex, you’ll get another $100 annual fee credit as well. With 4x points, travel protection, other benefits, and sweet Amex offers every now and then, the card is a workhorse. It’s my go to card despite having six others except Costco Visa for obviously Costco.
Some even claim to use it via Instacart to get the groceries delivered from Costco, Aldi etc. to get 4x on those places as well - but no personal experience there.
I’m biased with a conflict of interest as I do have a 90k+$200 statement credit referral for Amex gold. DM if you need a referral.
I wouldn’t recommend the Freedom Unlimited for your restaurant, bar, and grocery expenses.
More than likely, you’d be better off doing the Chase Sapphire Preferred and/or Amex Gold. I have the Freedom Unlimited and it is mostly used for gas and then I got the Blue Everyday from Amex to use for online purchases. I can refer you to any of the cards above and/or answer any questions - just let me know.
