Lowest paid associate on team (taking into account class year). Minority and woman. Next person up on salary also minority. How would you handle? Can you assume this is discrimination?

Also, what are your hours compared to others in your class year? Only consider subjective metrics assuming your objective metrics are otherwise the same. I know it can be easy to go there, but in this day and age most (not all) law firms would not be this overtly stupid (other than the firm that rhymes with Dones Jay).

How big is the class year and how many minorities are there?

Work is not evenly distributed, so though hours are lower, experience level and capability is not, despite aggressive attempts to pursue partner and solicit work. Lowest two are higher in class than some of those making more. Some only 2 years ahead making significantly more.

Yes

Are the practice areas the same? Lit can bill out less than corporate; imm pays less still.

Yes same

Is compensation not lockstep at your firm? Are you at Jones Day?

Have you ever taken a career slow down? I am feeling burnt out from COVID and the incremental responsibilities thrown my way over the last 5+ years. I feel like my health has deteriorated. I like my company, but I want to do less. I don’t need to be a HR Director, CHRO, etc. With a career slowdown, I am prepared for a lower compensation and would want decent benefits. Any lessons learned or success stories about career slowdowns?

Asking for wife who's also in banking. If she got ~$100k in signing bonus in 2019 for 1 year commitment in CA and started FT in July 2020, assuming she leaves before July 2021, can her employer claw back full amount in California? Some say it's much tougher to do so under CA law but wonder if anyone has any insights. Banks won't likely care about analyst signing bonuses, but associate bonus at EB with diversity bonus can be significant. If she quits before, she won't be going to another bank.

Hello everyone!
I recently found out that I was being paid less than everyone in the team (more than 25% gap to more expe teammates, around 15% less than new hires)
We all had the same responsibilities, I consider I even had a heavier workload (talking in past tense since I very recently made an internal move).
Things to consider:
On a work visa
Non-white
Non-male
What would you recommend doing?
Keeping it to myself?
Speaking up? How? With who?

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work.
