You should live in Culver City. Plenty of new apt buildings and also cool older places if thats what you like (personally I think Playa Vista is gross but some people like living in an architectural drawing). Silver Lake/Los Feliz are cool sure, but waaaaay across town, and if youre not that excited about driving (which I gather youre not if youve never felt the need to learn), just live closer, you wont be sorry. WFH isnt gonna last forever, and you wont believe the daily traffic.
Thank you!
Honestly Culver is a nice place to live. Venice/marina del Rey if you wanna be closer to the beach. Los Feliz/silver lake are more brooklyn-esque but that drive will be killer
That’s what I was thinking. I have only been to LA like a total of 4 times for work, so I’m going into it somewhat blindly! Thank you

You could even try Manhattan or Hermosa Beach. And since you don’t need to be in the office that much, who wouldn’t want the beach as your backyard? Tons of shops, restaurants by each pier.
Just live in Culver City or Playa Vista
Agree with CW 1.
Do not live in Playa Vista unless isolated, master-planned communities with suburban vibes is your thing and you never plan on having friends over.
Moved to Culver after a year in PV and loved it. There’s a Metro stop for easy travel to the beach or DTLA (where I wish I could’ve lived). DT Culver is very walkable and has/is growing a ton with Amazon/Apple/HBO moving in.
If I hadn’t just moved out of LA, I would’ve moved further east and Metro + biked the days I’d be in the office.
I did the NYC to LA move 5 years ago. I did Venice for 3 years and now have been in West Hollywood for 3 years. My advice - the West side (Venice, Santa Monica, etc) is cool and all but it gets old fast and it’s super isolating. I learned the hard way that central is better, you’re going to want to have access to all parts of LA. Culver gives you access to the West Side and is much cheaper. It gives you access to the 405, and it’s a cool enough town. I personally love West Hollywood. Beautiful side streets, night life (historically it’s a gay neighborhood) you can have as much privacy or party as you want as it’s near Beverly Hills, Hollywood. It’s also super dog friendly. It’s easy access to the Valley if you need it. Also Culver is a straight drive down La Cienega in traffic it’ll take a little while but not terrible. I’m a hardcore N.Y. native and I really like it in WeHo I feel like it’s perfectly placed. My time in Venice was mostly forgettable.
Basic advice, live central. Although I can’t lie the weather on the West side is amazing.
LMD1 KNOWS. Listen to them.
Culver City. Venice and Marina del Rey are overrun with homeless encampments that catch fire several times a week (follow @Venice311 on Twitter if you have doubts). Los Feliz and Silver Lake will rob you of hours of time commuting each day. Same for Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach.

The commute from MB or HB isn’t that bad. Just take Highland Ave all the way towards El Segundo and then Culver Blvd into Culver City. Culver City is also really nice now compared to when I lived just blocks north in Palms.
Yeah, 3k for a one or two BR might be challenging to find in the more desirable neighborhoods on the Westside especially if you’re looking for outdoor space.
What do you value? If you’re only going to office once a month then live near what’s important to you. Culver, Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Westchester would be easy commutes and cheaper Uber rides than Los feliz silver lake.
Looking at the same move with similar conditions, I decided not to go with the west side. It feels really sterile and work-centric over there. Eastside has a much better environment for fun stuff. Sure it’s a long commute, but it’s only once or twice a month. It’s probably a completely subjective thing, but Culver city just feels bland.
Edit: Should note that I’m an LA native moving back home from NYC. Probably changes things.
Ditto to the west side being bland and sterile.
Culver is less so. Probably a bit like Williamsburg actually.
East side is more like Bushwick? Smh @ me trying to make this comparison not being from either place but someone who’s lived in both, back me up?
I live in Los Feliz and work in Culver. Can confirm that the commute is a nightmare, but having lived on the west side for several years, I definitely prefer being on this side of town. I’d probably even go downtown before I went to Culver.
Thank you! I’m definitely leaning towards Los Feliz for the next year, and then move to Culver if it gets too exhausting with the commute.
Culver City is good! Playa Vista is expensive
Does everyone hate downtown or something? I love it. If you really don't want to drive, want to be able to walk to everything and possibly take a train to work, DTLA is totally an option, especially if your office is walking distance from the Expo line in Culver.
We only have 1 car and it barely leaves the parking garage. We walk to the grocery store, target, restaurants, etc. There's also an abundance of empty brand new units available with great move in deals.
DTLA is fine but if you’re moving specifically from NYC that would be bottom of my list. I’d have been disappointed if that where I first lived after moving from NY. I did consider it a few years ago, but def not as a first place to land.
Also, ideally it’d be less than what I pay now in NYC.. under $3k!
Wait you’ll be based in NY, going into the office in LA 1x a week? Or based in LA coming to NY 1x a week?
Where will the car be?

Yeah, a 2 hour + commute even once a month is worth it 🤨
Culver/Mar Vista/Venice
culver city has a cool vibe these days, but i love the south bay and lived in manhattan beach and hermosa for years. i loved being close to the ocean so depends what you're into.
