Just signed the outside employment form in KPMG onboarding system. I actually wanted to start dabbling in creative writing as a potentially monetizable hobby, but I'm guessing this may pose issues.
Definitely interested in the "exception from this policy may be requested if provision of non-professional services doesn't interfere with one's duties of causes conflict of interest" clause, though. Has anyone been able to get one of those before?

I was at my favorite job for a 23 years. I had 27 vacation days, 2 personal days & 16 paid holidays. I worked my vacation day to ensure I had a week with my husband after tax season (he was a CPA). I was laid off 6 months after he passed. I moved home to Sacramento. Lost my Ma 11/2025. Now I'm dealing with selling my home. Etc. I didn't have time to use vacation. Sick or bereavement. I only took bereavement for the day he passed. Tomorrow marks the 4th anniversary & I plan to unplug from everything. My soul needs a break.
Sit down with a calendar and plan some fun mini vacations or days when you can tackle that cool personal project you’ve been meaning to do. I work for myself so I tend to take time as I need it. But when i worked for a company, I had to plan most of my PTO at least six months in advance. Make it something to look forward to.

I need to be more intentional like that next year. My team is very flexible and can take off time with little notice so that makes it easy to put off 😀
Divide up the pto in four batches so you will have meaningful time off every 3 months

That’s how I will do it next year!
Take the staycation as taking short weeks can still burn you out. You end up trying to do 5-days of work in 3.

That was exactly my fear with doing it one day a week. Thanks!
I usually pick significant times of the year and take a week off. Anniversary, spouse's birthday, kid's birthday, my birthday. There's also grabbing a holiday for an extra day but there can be pros and cons with that.
I take a cruise once a year. Next years is 26 days.
I don’t generally take any other time off during the year. And my company is good with honoring vacation time. I do ask for it usually about a year ahead (we already have 2028 cruise booked).

Can you get bought out of any of your hours?

I don’t think so. It’s use it or lose it and none can roll over.
