My company is starting to host bi-annual weekend retreats for team building and I have mixed feelings about it. They aren't making it mandatory, but attending is highly encouraged. I don't want to give up my weekend, but I think it might be helpful for work culture. Would others consider me unprofessional or not serious about my work if I don't go?

Our district is so lax on the students this year. With tech issues and distance learning days, we’ve gone from accommodating to enabling real quick. No penalties for late work, taking excuses for attendance, lower academic and behavioral standards... We were beginning to make so much progress on transforming our school culture, but this year is erasing that and then some. Is anyone else concerned about how to raise the expectations and students’ self-discipline back to pre-enabling levels?
