Thankfully I've never been subject to anything like that, but I have heard of it happening. Employers feel justified in doing it, because it's a way to save money while not having to find new recruits. And you're right, it is insulting. But, the grim reality is that it's better than losing your job completely. I hope your coworker starts looking and finds a better position elsewhere.
Yeah, I told her to try to ask for the same amount and also start seriously looking.
There was approx. 150 positions elimated in the market I worked in effective 11/8/24. We were told via an EMAIL!!!!!!! On one of the zoom links, it listed everyone's name that was elimated. This elimation covered MDs and down.
that is a complete lack of class. listing people on zoom ?!? when will this stuff end ??
I have been with the same company for 20 years and have the highest Seniority in my position. Had a great annual review a Thursday and on Tuesday via zoom call was told my job is being eliminated and my options were a demotion to a position 75 miles from my home or severance pay. I took severance as I am obviously not appreciated.
Take the severance pay. Please see my comment below, for someone else the severance route was the best route.
Yah def have heard of this. They can apply for unemployment and will get it if they do not take the lower paying job. If they are not offered an equal paying job they will get the u employment.
TBH, I would not be offended, I was a supervisor or "high level" position, and then brought "down to lower" to another position. This supervisor or manager level, if he or she had burned bridges or had ego issues with her "high level" position then he or she would have guilt or feel like her co workers will treat her differently. All the labels are just labels and titles, when some one in a manager or supervisor levels lets their title get the best of them, the only thing that suffers in the culture of the clinic and the positive energy is brought down to, no one wanting to go into work!!!. In healthcare I believe that every position is importance in its own wright, everyone has their own important tasks and things to do to get the job done, and keep the clinic a well oiled machine. I would never think lesser of an MA or manager or supervisor or MD DO OR NP PA. Because there are things that we all do that the other would not be able to do effectively or efficiently. I have worked many clinics that manager was very easy going and calm and she would many times and many shift would wear different hats!! On the shifts that she was a MA, she would dress accordingly, and on the manager days she would switch to manager mode. It was the owners the higher ups and financial investors that did not like that smoother clinic operation and would harass the manager for not being more FIRM!, so she eventually left, and soon after so did I.
If they are elimiatining your position, they should at least have the decensy to keep you higher pay, because you are very valuable to them and they dont see that sadly its a very common place now a days. There are strict laws for position elimiation and they might have a very very nice severence packaging for you. I know of some one recently who the NP position was elimated because the last MD was tired of the politics and quit. The HR guy was so nice and informative, that actually quiting and taking the severance package was like a forced paid vacation for months!!! and this was the smar thing to do and now this person re applied and got another position with the same healthcare system.
Yes. This happened to some people I know. They did not take the lower position. They found new jobs & are better off for it.
Yeah I think at this point she is going to do that.
Yup! Happened to me!! I was also going to be taking on more work. More work, less pay?? I told Them no thank you.
They also didn’t have to pay severance since they offered me something else.
I would find another job!
Yep. Know that it's happened recently. Same exact situation. Eliminated position, offered another role EXCEPT 20% pay-cut, and working with those supervised. Pretty sure they are trying to to get them to quit. 2 weeks later they were gone. Likely better off for it if being treated the way they were was something the employer was willing to do.
That's horrible but at least she still has a job
Tough choice. I would decline and move on. Is probably the healthiest choice. This is a demotion.
