He’s fine. Chill.
My kid is 5 and still puts his fingers in his mouth to soothe himself. I mean he's not that good at Mario Kart yet but his thumb functions fine.
It’s all good. My 7 yr old still sucks hers when she’s super tired. So long as the dentist says it’s fine, you’re good. It’s not really until 3-5 yrs old or so you need to start being concerned.

Son is turning 3 next month. Still sucks his thumb AND rubs his nipples for comfort 🤷♂️

It’s fine dude. Ideally kick the habit before his adult teeth comes though
If the doctor is not concerned why are you? Is it more of an optics thing? Plenty of kids suck their thumbs as a soothing need, others hold stuffed animals and others gently bang their head on furniture (my son did that for a while then outgrew it).
Still young, but thumb sucking (or pacifiers in general) can lead to bite abnormalities which then cause speech challenges, even with baby teeth, as they learn to say the word that way regardless of baby or adult teeth.
The thumb itself will be fine.
The bitter nail polish works really well.
Our son loves pacifier, see if you can get him to use pacifier instead
We don’t want to get too stressed. In this bowl bunch of parents have let their kids have pacifier until 3 or 4 and overall consensus is it’s fine
We got silicone chew things for our kid.
Thanks all. It's conforting to know that it's not going to impact thumb functions. Will try pacifiers. He never had one as we thought about it's effect on teeth. But will give it shot.

Switching to a pacifier is just substituting one sucking problem with another. Also the teeth can get impacted greater from a pacifier since the kids tend to bite down harder on them.
Just Google "teeth from pacifier use" and look at the results of long term use.
I did it myself until around 5. My dad bribed me with a new bike and I stopped. My daughter did it until about 4 and it took a few rounds of bribes but she eventually stopped. No damage done to either of us.
