Hi Everybody,
I'm currently working as an outsource in Rapid Metro as Technical Assistant/Civil. I earned a Master degree in Water Resource Engineer after B.Tech in Civil Engineering. Due to Covid 19 I took job back in Civil sector even though I have a masters degree in WRE. It's been almost 6 months of constant applying and rejection and still I'm nowhere close to a job in my dream branch which is the Water sector.Im hopeful that through this portal I may find an entry level position in water
Recently got a role at GCP as TAM (comp is pending) but I also got into bschool ; I was hoping to use bschool to transition into product management but I’m not conflicted as I got into my dream company. I see 3 options: 1, join GCP as TAM and forget about bschool 2, join the role but quit in several months to join bschool or 3, join google and hope bschool gives me a deferral. What would you do? I gave up.
I switched to UX copywriting in fin-tech. There’s a lot more Gen Xers in there, and a ton of opportunities.
UX copywriting is writing the microcopy that goes on digital widgets, to help a user perform a task on a website or mobile app. They call refer to this kind of copywriting as “content strategy” or “content design.” And they sometimes refer to UX (user experience) as XD (experience design).
I chose fin-tech because they are behind by 15 years, and they have a lot of money. They drool over something they call “design thinking” which is 95% identical to we creatives in advertising call “concepting.”
So far it’s always been 9–5, no late nights, no weekends. The pay is about 10% lower than advertising, but still decent. And with much better job security and work-life balance.
CD1 how were you able to break in? Are you FT or is this a flexible option for remote/freelance?
There’s always porn.

That would be a funny url for my advertising portfolio site
It’s not just you.
The golden days of creative advertising are looong over. For years, it’s been mostly banner ads and email blasts. Big budgets, TV campaigns and awesome activations are exceedingly rare, can take over a year to produce, and 9/10 are tested & cliented to death.
Plus, the ad job market has been awful for over a year. Pharma was once a refuge for always hiring and paying well, but even that’s evaporating.
Between high cost of business now (interest rates & inflation) & “promise” of AI to do all data/creative/strategic roles - no ones investing in their marketing/advertising.
And of course this biz has always been a youngins game, there’s an expiration date for most of us. People in their 30s or 40s talking about an exit strategy aren’t kidding. The challenge is finding something else that pays this well with our skills…
Good luck!

So what's your workday like ACD1? Are you doing emails/banners? Or have you remained in the fold with the good stuff?

(Cont.) About six months ago I hit a wall, and decided I cannot do pharma anymore. Focusing on disease to make a buck was bumming me out so much (oh, and I even got cancer...took care of it/all fine now), but also doing emails/banners and working for kids who are way more confident than they are intelligent is another shade of painful. I have been job searching (with my "regular" (non-pharma book) for nine months and nothing. I feel like Matthew McConaughey when he decided to stop doing rom-coms. Phone has stopped ringing. I see jobs posted and often think, ugh, sounds ugh. Would equally love to step back into concepting roles for actual CPG campaigns, or pivot to a new industry. What is the point of my post? Not really sure. I love over 40's, and am interested in your opinions, but don't be a dick. I'm not in the mood.
TLDR: It's hard to change directions, especially during the state of our job market.
Not a creative and a little younger than you but had a similar trajectory. Few years ago I got a job at an agency doing consumer stuff again and loved it, but got laid off pretty quickly. Have only been able to get pharma freelance since then.
