It’s so subjective. I choose to never be house poor. I’d rather have a lower housing payment and more money for travel and savings etc. All depends on your priorities.
I think you will be fine. Worse case scenario is you stretch things out for a few more years. That mortgage is about 5k/mo depending how much you put down. That still leaves plenty for savings and paying down loans.
Dream homes are a lie…
It’s not just that. It’s a total scam.
Congrats on finding a dream home!
I was in a similar position as you when I was purchasing my house (not a dream house though). I worried about how the mortgage payments, insurance, and maintenance costs were going to stack up. My dad (who has always been frugal and has several rental properties) reassured me. He shared that he had similar worries when buying his first home home, but it is expected that my wife and I would earn more money while we lived in the home.
That is to say, we are relatively young and our careers have a projected growth to earn more money. While it would seem tight in the first 1-3 years in your home, it gets a lot better as you stabilize your expenses and earn more money.

Yes.
Reach out to a lender and they can get you prequalified so you know exactly what you can afford. Where are you located? As a realtor I work with several lenders in the Austin area. Tricia Worley is awesome!
