Teachers/ Professors are a tough market... 403b’s and usually not much else to invest
This is great advice. Thank you for your input, this is the approach I’m looking to do this year; ideally with a specific market.
Have you researched their benefits? In our area college compensation programs include pension with required contributions, 403b plans and deferred comp.
By the time they are done contributing to them each month there isn't much left for other investing.
Agree with Pres1. Hard market. But if you still want to go that route get someone to give you a copy of the summary plan description, and the fee disclosure notice (408b2) and you should have everything you need to understand the plan and it’s individual investment options. Sometimes you can call up the HR department and say you’re helping one of their employees and want to see the doc - depending on who answers the phone they might be willing to email it to you, that can be a crap shoot as they’re not required to give it to you, only to employees. Sometimes these things are on a public internet site so you can google it (more rare), usually behind at least a password. More times than not, you’ll need an actual employee to provide these docs to you. Now, plans can change from year to year, so be careful about that too. So ask for the 2021 info. Good luck, happy hunting!
Start by asking the question, “do you know exactly how much income you will need to live comfortably in retirement when you take into account taxes and inflation?”
