As someone in talent, I wholeheartedly agree. This should not be a game or a taboo topic. It’s been veiled and opaque for way too long as a strategy that makes people feel uncomfortable and uses that as leverage. Ask what the salary bands are, and say “I want to make sure we have the same expectations around comp”. That should be in the first call absolutely. Anyone who is a good recruiter should know this and offer that information up willingly.
I feel like I’m not supposed to bring it up because it will look like I’m only in this for the money (I am), and not about my passion for the work, blah blah blah.
F No. Jobs are transactional and recruiters are financially incentivized to hire YOU

I feel like if always comes up in the first convo, but it’s usually the last thing discussed so time is still wasted.
I’m so committed to normalizing it, right after they welcome me to the interview I shout: "How much money do YOU make?"
I definitely talk about it in the first convo.

Cuts both ways.
Dunno if I'm giving them the 'i want this job' or the 'fuck you pay me' price yet.
Is that not a thing? Why are people wasting their time
Oh it’s not a thing.
I always ask the money question on our first conversation. it’s saved me a lot of time
