Maybe the better question is anyone actually intellectually stimulated by their projects?
Same boat. Following
We don’t like to admit it but consultants do 2 things. Either things others can’t do or things others don’t want to do. If your job is not stimulating, deal with it or fix it. I had a person on a project who said they were not stimulated and I said, we’ll automate your job away then. They didn’t understand, so I made them learn java script and I made they write automation to get rid of their own job on the engagement so they could move on. Their whole career has changed as they previously were not a tech person and 2 years later they now are on an IT path. If you are stuck in a crappy job that no one wants - automate it.
YES. For about 6 months last year. It was painful. I was very loud and clear about my disdain for the situation and that I’d like to either roll off or get more exciting work quickly. Eventually the tables turned in a positive direction when we sold more work
Ask if there is any admin stuff you can help with. I went to any and all internal trainings they would let me go to. But mostly tried to maintain perspective and realize it was ok to basically work an 8-5:30 and have every evening free for a while
I’m in the same boat. Having realized that I’m stuck on this for the next 3 months, I’ve realized to just go on cruise mode. Instead I invest my time and energy on reading, working out and trying out new things. At work, I try to make the most of things to keep me going. E.g. instead of being a bystander I have become more active in meetings and phone calls and try to put myself out there more. It makes things a bit more interesting :)
I requested over 4 Times to be rolled off - the client clearly didn’t need me but the partner wanted to keep me on this project so that I could do adhoc work for him on other projects. I ended up looking very hard for a new job and quitting
Strategy 1, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You have Partner level visibility and you are still not working your tail off. This is your opportunity to grow your knowledge, up skill yourself and find personal time. Go an extra mile on whatever the Partner asks you to do. You can get to bigger and better stuff sooner without going through the mess this business brings
Same. In an endless and unfulfilling role. Leadership just ignores my convos about me moving on.
Take a training. Skilling yourself up is the most valuable thing you can do when you are being relatively undervalued. Of course, that's from an anecdotal, personal perspective, but again: someone's got to do the grunt work.
Reward yourself by investing in yourself when you have the time and capacity to do so. It'll pay off when there are other, more exciting projects which come available.

That’s when it’s time to move projects
If your contract and client are flexible, you could make your own opportunities to build in learning and growing.
Bruh literally talk about this like every week with coworkers who are tired of their projects as well.
Been there. New project or asking for increased responsibility were the keys to happiness for me
I ended up pursing a practice transfer after 5 months on a boring reg compliance project. I start in July 🙌
Plan an exit strategy...don't burn bridges if you can avoid it.. also see if you can find someone to replace you..
Stimulation is important.
Depending on your firm/team culture:
- Bring up the issue directly but with tact, suggesting that you could make more impact and develop more by doing XYZ
- Contact your staffers and discuss rolling off to further your development by exploring new horizons
- Do client dev/knowledge work on the side
+1 for upskilling. Dont limit yourself to "firm training" either.
I took several online courses and worked on a couple cool deep learning projects while on a "slow" role.
