Need some advice here. I am a fullstack developer with 5 yoe in Angular and Python. My aim is to crack FAANG companies. Now I got an offer from HSBC in a credit risk model monitoring role using Python. It is close to a data engineer role.
My question is that will it be a good idea to shift from development role to a model monitoring role if I want to move to FAANG in the future?Or does FAANG not prefer people who are not in core development roles?Amazon Microsoft Google Adobe PwC EY Citi Barclays JPMorgan Chase

Rising Star
The second has has more base money and a better title.
Not sure what the WLB difference is but I’d easily go second if I already had a Big4 brand name on my resume.
Rising Star
Spent 8 years in industry.
Title still matters a lot (especially one that can translate over).
And typically, principal is v high up on that totem pole.
Take the higher base. With pwc 20% performance bonus is not gaurenteed. And depending on which city tier you might be at the top of the SM band ans may only get 3k increments each year till you make director.
make sense.
You ain’t getting 20% bonus with us.
All helpful thoughts.
Sr Mgr at 183 base seems really low. What practice is this?
I think SM for PwC is <> other SMs because they have Director which is == SM elsewhere.

It’s $37k/yr difference.
Question for you -
how soon do you think you will be Director at PwC? Each year is $37k opportunity loss. 3 years = ~$100k
How soon do you think you will catch up on those loss? If it takes 3 years to catch up and another 3 to make up, we are talking about 6 years here.
Will your career stagnate at boutique?
Can you come back to PwC later after 4-6 years at higher level? Assuming you continue to grow anyway at boutique.
I guess one always have options to interview for right position, just the timing has to be correct.
Agreed it's about lost opportunity cost and pay back that needs to figured in.

How was your fit with the boutique? Is this an area where you'd feel happy and grow? Are you looking to stay in consulting long term or exit to industry?
Fit is good with small firm. Consulting for a few more years.
Depends, what’s important to you? What does the long term path look like at the boutique firm?
Sounds like the right fit then, better pay and stimulating. I think you have a decision OP!
What practice in pwc ?

I was told PwC SM went up to 32% but I doubt anyone gets that
Lol
Does PWC pay for MBA??
Yes we have an advisory scholars program. You have to go through an application process and it’s far from guaranteed but definitely pretty common.
