Don’t do it. Your job is to learn your trade from the best possible people. Your exposure to Nike as a coordinator will be very limited indeed.
Gonna go sixsies on this
Stay put for now, please. You have so, so much to learn, but you have to be an environment where you CAN learn. Strategy Director 1 sees it clearly.
(Cont) to make a jump into something that isn’t “brand strategy” or could end up being less strategic than the Big Agency world I’m in when I’ve only started in the industry less than a year ago. I feel like I always see people trying to get a position like mine, so I feel like I should feel lucky- but I can’t tell if this is where I should be. I can’t tell if making a jump would render me unable to ever come back if I wanted, either
Thanks for all the advice, guys. I think I’m feeling super disenchanted with my agency and with my experience with strategy as a whole since I started, it makes it easier to think about leaving. I don’t feel as though I’m in being put in a position to learn in the first place and it makes me start to think strategy isn’t for me.
What city are you in now?
Keep developing. Very few places train their planners well, if you are in one and it won’t change. You are stagnant anyway. Get out if you are unhappy and not growing. See if you can get into a strat training course (E.g. miami ad school strategy bootcamp), ask for some mentor ship from planners at the new place.
In your opinion, in the United states specifically, which agencies are training planners well today?
Update: I did it
