@SC1 pretty shocked to see your comments here. I thought such opinions come from undereducated people only (or maybe you are). The US has become what it is today because of the immigrants. Everyone (maybe except the Native Americans, but they immigrated from Asia a long time ago as well) is immigrant in some way. Today it is extremely difficult for international students to find a job in the US. 90% of the companies I know of don't recruit international students. For companies that do, the bar is much higher than American peers (in my program 50% of the international students graduated from Ivy League while 90% of Americans are from average state colleges with mediocre GPA). Instead of saving the jobs for the incompetent, Americans really should see why they fall behind. Seriously, I can say 50% of Chinese college graduates speak one fluent foreign language at least, how many American grads can do that?
I'm cool with the H1B process and I like my immigrant coworkers/friends. I feel the same way about competing for jobs the same way I feel about competing in sports. Out work your competition, don't hope they lose so you can win.
And I didn't steal anyone's job. I went through a process of selection and scrutiny and convince my employer why deserved the job and why I deserved to be sponsored for a potential green card. Anyway, difficult to convince haters like you
Hey SC1, are you Native American? Because if not, let me enlighten you that your parents or maybe not-so distant ancestors immigrated to US desiring for a better life and eventually blending with the US society to become citizens. Quite selfish of them, no? Maybe they or you on their behalf, should also go back to the country they came from. But that's how this country was built. Yes I left my country, my family desiring for better opportunities, better life. I lived as a closeted gay in my country and I wanted to live in a place where I can feel more liberated. Yes I was selfish just like your ancestors were. And yes, I care for the country that I am living in now, paying taxes and willing to pay even more so that it will eventually benefit its citizens. Also, let me also remind you again I earned my job and living in the country by proving better than other candidates and proving that I have tangible skills that others don't have. Anyway, it's pointless discussing how a civilization is formed with a bigot like you.
Being gay is my choice? I am done here I think. Enjoy the Trump presidency.
SC1, I pity the people that have to work with you. Just pure disgusting. Comments like yours are so hurtful. You care about your citizens and yet probably refuse to pay higher taxes that would provide for healthcare and social security benefits for your citizens. Please don't give me "you care for your citizens" shit.
@SA1 I feel bad for the foreigners/gays working with you. It's a terrifying thought that these people work with you without knowing what you think of them. You may be nice to them on appearance but deep down you hope they're all gone. People came to the US for all kinds of reasons, for a better life or for the ideals that they pursue. One major reason for me is that I'm not a fan of the gov of my country. But now knowing I might be working with people like you, it terrifies me. I should seriously consider moving to Canada. (Please tell me you're not in EY, I would really appreciate your answer)
Thanks D2. Didn't expect this thread to turn so hateful.
@OP As corny as it sounds, haters gonna hate. Stay strong mate! Nothing a night of drinking can't fix :D
"Go back to your country" is not having a conversation. It is just hateful!
Hey SC1, why would I go back to my country? Where did I imply that I want to go back? In fact, it has been struggle to get a job in this country because of the limited employers who are ready to sponsor my visa despite my desire to live in this country where I have earned my education and where I pay my taxes.
@SA1 If so, other countries should do the same to Americans working overseas. I've seen so many Americans overseas doing everything that a local worker can do but get paid much higher. Also there are a lot of projects in my firm I know that require foreign language skills. I made that point to point out how self-centered and ignorant a lot of the Americans are, not the practicality. Overall foreign nationals contribute much more than what they get in return. Most of them go back to their countries before they can claim Social Security benefits. My family paid over a quarter million for my tuition and living expenses when I was in high school and college. Regardless of all these, the US will eventually lose its leader role if everyone is thinking like you. I admit consultants are not as important to the society as researcher or technology workers. But they still bring innovation to this industry and keep the US companies as the leaders. Last of all, I genuinely believe all lives are equal. I don't believe an American or Chinese (my own nationality) life is worth more about than others. Manufacturing is flowing from China to other countries as well but I'm happy to see this will change the lives in other countries as poverty declines.
EY2, I am beyond thankful for what EY has done. I didn't expect this thread to turn so hateful.
@SA1 calm down mate. I'm guessing vibe you are not aware of how immigration impacts a country and why closed countries like Japan are dying. If everything about immigration is bad why do you think countries like Canada are opening their doors to take in more and more people into their country. You should do some reading on this. As for Americans not getting jobs because immigrants take it, I see the frustration but don't understand the reason. You have an American with a degree in chemical engineering and on the other hand you have an immigrant with a graduate degree from a US University in data analytics interviewing for a tech position. Is it not logical for the firm to choose the latter? Anyways, I believe OP was just trying to get a few chuckles from the 🐠 fam, so relax.
Pls our citizens need these jobs. That's the reason Trump is our president
Finally found the 1 person doing RPA at KPMG...we're hiring FYI. As for the Visas, it's a complicated process that has been abused and needs new regulations. Or work for google on an aircraft carrier 20 miles off the coast in international waters😨
OP the longer you have been in this country, you will realize a lot of people are deeply uncomfortable with you if you are not white. You non whiteness carries the connotation that you are not Americans or don't belong here. It's something Asian/Latino/(insert non white adj here) Americans struggle all the time. It comes with time, and Hopefully eventually it will be a better place. Congrats on your H1B mate. 🥂It was a nerve wracking experience.
@SA1 you should be considered for Sean Spicer's position. You sound just like him. Also remember you don't get to decide who should be in this country either. If the gov at the time used your rationale to decide if your immigrant ancestors should be in this country, you wouldn't be arguing with everyone here. Think about if your immigrant ancestors' qualifications, and I tell you I had 3.9 GPA from a top US college with all kinds of honors, am I less justified to be in the country than your ancestors?
Immigrants are taking your jobs ? There's a 550 page report and study that says otherwise https://nyti.ms/2d0QH1j
All I meant is, your job should be given to an American first. This H1B shit needs to stop, especially in consulting. I would understand in a high tech environment. Yeah you went through a process, exactly what I am against. That process is what Trump wants to change and I hope he does. These jobs can be done by Americans and i do work with H1Bs all the time. Anyways my post was aimed at the process because I see it hurting Americans. I worded it inappropriately, my apologies. But I would want these jobs to be done by American grads rather than people from outside. I have seen the current process and no way I can believe that we need consultants from other countries. Again, high tech and research I'd believe it
