Age? My 2 and change yo started doing this and I’m thinking about spraying him with water/mist when he does it (ok I’m kidding but can I?)
Almost certainly a phase. Will take a while to get out of. Do your best to respond calmly so as not to raise the tension. Our daughter occasionally would just slap us. Came out of nowhere. Just a straight arm slap across the face then carrying on as if nothing happened.
Kids play fight and generally just act weird sometimes. A firm, but not loud ‘No. we don’t hit. Touch Softly. Kindly’ etc etc.
It’s temporary and developmental. Kids deal with lots of daily frustrations and don’t have the tools to work around and deal with them. So often times that is expressed by this kind of behavior.
Here is a trick that works for us usually:
1. Acknowledge his frustrations by saying something like “I see that you are very frustrated. That must be hard”
2. Understand what it’s coming from by following up with “what is frustrating you? Can I help you fix it?”
3. Help him with whatever he needs
4. Once calmed down, use the moment to teach him by explaining to him calmly: “when you hit me it hurts me and makes me sad. Next time you’re frustrated let’s try using our voice to ask for help. Can you try that next time?”
Does he go to daycare? This might be a problem if he does this to other kids in daycare.
I’ve heard this is a legitimate explanation
Essentially decision fatigue, except instead of decisions it’s good behavior
This too shall pass!
Terrible twos?
Fwels like 2^2 right now !!
I’m not recommending this, but my cousin had the same issue. After biting my dad one too many times my dad bit him back. My cousin never bit anyone ever again. The 80s were just a different time.
Where’s the wtf reaction when you need one
