Our team hired a senior manager from Deloitte and promoted him to director. He struggled for 2 years, did not manage to get any of his old clients to join. As he was attracted to create more business, he was then let go. But he was also lazy af ;)
I’m curious to hear other people’s experience with this. I’ve heard that it can be difficult switching firms at the Manager or SM level, since much of the job depends on knowing your way around firm processes, resources, and policies.
I moved back to the US from the UK as a newly promoted Senior Manager in tax. For EY at least in tax not expected to be selling work until SM 3. Thus you have time to build your network.
This thread interests me. Hopefully more people chime in with experiences.
