I am in the same boat.
They are putting together a package for the hiring committee. I think they are trying to cover any gaps that may not be immediately obvious or may have been left out of the resume
I agree that it sounds like the recruiter is filling out these details for your hiring packet - it will also include things like references, education, work awards, comp expectations, etc
I think it’s to add leverage for hiring committee. The recruiter probably wants as much evidence as possible that you’re a top performer within your peer group, so any stats supporting that are helpful

I had something similar happen. I heard they typically ask when they are working with someone who is on the cusp of a promotion window.
Being counseled out isn’t definitely a deal breaker, but it will probably impact negotiation leverage for comp
Which group have you interviewed with? How long did the process take? I have been trying to get into Strategy and Ops group, have not been able to get an initial resume review through

Used to work there. They call you separately and literally ask you date for each role change
