This is where I have a real problem with the whole “pregnancy is not a disability” mentality us women have promoted. No it’s not a “disability” but it can be disabling as fuck. I felt such pressure to just be totally normal and fine my whole pregnancy, but the truth is I was throwing up for 40 weeks and felt like absolute garbage and could barely keep my eyes open. There were many days I wished I could just be on disability and not working. Just want there to be a space for this mentality too.
I did it too. It was really, really hard. My only advice is to get the rest you need. Team still working at 9pm? Just go home. Tell them you are growing a goddamn human and you need your goddamn rest. If they side eye you, they are human monsters. Also, be where you are most comfortable. Even if that is a couch and not your desk.
Bananas. Full of potassium so good for baby, and enough sugar to give you a boost. Consume 15 minutes before you need a little extra energy to stay awake.
This is where I drew the line. I was working on a pitch on week 37 but made it clear that I’m not working a minute past 6 or weekends. They can’t really fire you for that so just make sure you’re doing what’s best for you and the baby!
Take care of yourself. I was in the same situation when I was pregnant with my daughter. Worked and worked and didnt listen to my body. I ended up in the hospital at 37 weeks with pneumonia and a torn muscle from coughing.
Agree with SC1. You have to set your own limits. Ask what you can do from home if you want to keep contributing. But you have to take care of yourself first
How’s the pitch going, OP? Hanging in there?
