Wow. McKinsey, which has the biggest public sector presence of the MBB, really hasn't been doing too hot at all in the sector.
Its presence is tiny and it's gotten even smaller. Meanwhile it's bungling whatever opportunities it's getting.

Please check for intransit visa requirements for stopover in Europe destinations. I know UK and France requires it for non US citizens.
Read about the transit requirements at Frankfurt. I did this 3 years ago and was fine, bit things could have changed. Overall though, I didn't really like Lufthansa - the food etc was below par compared to the middle Eastern airlines.

A 7-hr into trip stopover on Lufthansa might be a good option with an infant, if you think the uber long US-Qatar first leg might be problematic. Lufthansa is a good airline but you will have to move from one terminal to another in all likelihood at Frankfurt, which might also be a bit of a pain with a baby.

Just travelled to india with our 10 month old! Highly recommend flying business class. It is helpful to have the extra room and more attention from flight attendants. We flew Emirates and were very pleased.
