Cheers for the insights all. Seems like it’s the age old battle of shit in the streets and tech bros vs weather and lifestyle.
It's expensive, and the industry has shifted heavily into tech and startups. Also, it's very expensive. However, this part of California is objectively one of the most beautiful places in the entire country, perhaps the world. Whatever else you do, take advantage of that as much as you can and you won't regret coming here.
Lived here 3 years
Pros: Beautiful, amazing nature, good career opps
Cons: expensive (though less so now with mass exodus), big homelessness problem, tech bros galore
it CAN be amazing and gorgeous and fun, but yeah, shits everywhere
It’s a cool city but it is small, and extremely expensive for what you get. Making six figures while riding a packed bus and walking through poopy streets and tech bros can get tiresome. And once you’ve been there a few years the same places can get old. But still, great weather, cool spots, I made some great friends there, and it can be an incredible accelerator for your career. I left and miss it a little bit, but not enough to come back. But it was a good time.
Summary: SF is filled with tech bros wading through shit covered streets to get to six figure jobs at startups. But the weather is nice.
