Post-Covid, I just cannot seem to find the inspiration to network at a conference such as the AWS DC summit. I initially wanted to get facetime with vendors to check out potential job openings.

But it just feels like a large circle jerk where no productive work gets done. And besides all keynote addresses are recorded and available online anyway.

Wondering if anyone out there feels differently or has had better experiences from these events? #aws

It will only benefit you in that you go there with a specific plan to meet vendors in person to gain connections. Otherwise you should remotely view it honestly. All networking is a bit of a circle jerk

Is it a bad time to be looking to change jobs?

Currently 120k near Seattle area, 100% remote, team lead of 7 but not senior. Seniors make 150k. Incredible work-life balance. I'm literally making my team tackle random tech debt while the biggest problems we solved in the past month we're typos, not features

I watched my role jump to 150k+ at amazon, and been working to bump to senior. Was hoping to get the title or bounce. But now I'm seeing hiring freezes and even job losses. Should I wait?

My mentor just told me he is romantically interested in me. I’m totally caught off guard by this and he is probably at least 30 years older than me. I feel like he used his position to get closer to me. I don’t know what to do. I already told him I see him as a mentor but I don’t know what to tell him without being rude. He is well known in the legal community and I don’t want to commit career suicide.

Has anyone tried negotiating for paid time to study for the CPA exam during the work week? During summer when it’s theoretically less busy, just a few hours? We have the option to reduce our hours (and pay) in the summer to study, but that doesn’t sit right with me. The firm benefits financially from having more licensed employees, they should compensate you for that time (at least some of it!).
