It’s funny that people with good technical background at Platinion have a hard time switching to a generalist role that requires little to no expertise. If it is really that way, leave the firm for a tech company.. BCG doesn’t deserve your dedication
Having worked on teams PLT/Core BCG teams, they tend to be extremely different kinds of people. PLT tend to be wicked smart at what they do, but sometimes lack soft skills and ability to think about the bigger pic. Agree they would have great opps outside of BCG though…plus no slides 😀
It is very possible but you need to be an extremely strong tech consultant with soft skills and a performance track record of being able to make the transition and likely to be successful. If you have an MDP that will sponsor you and wants you, the transfer process is a formality as the most important issue is a leader willing to sponsor you and ensure your development and the fact that you will be staffed consistently. Come in, do great work and the right doors can be opened.
I’m no longer at BCG but I was a partner not that many years ago who tried to engineer this a couple of times and was told that the reason they make the process so painful is to prevent people from looking at Platinion (and other teams, KT etc.) as a backdoor entry point to BCG.
^ this is correct. 90% of Platinion professionals are hired for a very different skill set and support model that is very different from what a generalist or strategist would do in a pure management consulting capacity.

One could also suggest generalists are hired for having no skills based on your comment
Agreeing with a 2 & 3 above.
There is definitely more overlap when your talking about the Enterprise Solutions team and classic BCG versus the Architecture or Engineering teams.
I personally love working with tech hands on and haven’t been able to do enough of it at Platinion. So will be looking for greener tech pastures at some point.
What’s your background?
