This angry inability to understand that the volume of business has to support promotions, the "has to be this year" lack of patience, and willingness to jump ship at the first sign of trouble is why I'm automatically skeptical of ppl who jump Firm to Firm. I automatically assume they'll be high maintenance, and find I'm right ~75% of the time. (From partner who's been at PwC 17 years....and yes, pushed through my share of disappointing years where I 'had the facts' to support a better outcome).
Slalom, you may be right...it's a great strategy for ppl who plan to make a career of hopping around or will eventually move to industry. For those who aspire to be Partners, one of the considerations will be how you handle adversity. In fact, a specific question will likely be "what happens if you aren't admitted this cycle?". (Hint: "I'll leave" isn't the answer we're looking for). We are not asking for unconditional 30 year loyalty...just the business acumen to realize that 1) promotions will always require a hard look at the business case, and 2) nobody can promise you'll be promoted.
stripped away or never given?
Stripped away is a poor choice of words since you never received the promotion officially.
And depending on what exactly your managers said, you may have been completely misled or you were reading into it too much. Either way, it serves as a reminder to maintain healthy skepticism at least.
You and 80% of Senior Associates at PwC.
Mayneee people here are so bitter and negative... it's like you all are so pessimistic and deny any benefit of doubt as a result of your own situations?
Sounds like OP got screwed by circumstance and leadership did nothing to make up for it
Sorry to hear, OP. Glad to hear you found a good opp
Yes. P3. That kind of attitude seems to suggest a level of immaturity and ignorance of how our business works and/or a lack of commitment to a proven development model.
Please clarify..were you promoted and it was confirmed/communicated/announced, or do you just feel like you got screwed by not receiving it to begin with?
People here are being such douches to OP. I've seen situations where a promotion was endorsed and "guaranteed" by partners and directors only for it to not happen because of other external factors
PWC1 the difference is I've got hard facts supporting this. And that is why I'm out the door. Already got an offer being written up. Not gonna let people take advantage of me.
Everyone who worked to get promoted and didn't get it had something or someone to blame for it. Just cause it looks likely doesn't mean it was a done deal. If everyone whose supervisor believed they should get got it then 90% of the people up for it would get it
It's business PWC1. You can either be a pushover or someone that knows their worth and value he/she brings to the table.
P3 is a beast
Everyone up for it has hard numbers supporting. High util and great feedback and good sales. Looks like your issue was the attitude
It was a "no brainer" according to counselor and partner. But an international engagement went south. Delays with work permits, sow getting signed, eating hours etc... KILLED my util
Good for you OP. Careful don't react too emotionally
@Op you are giving us no details. Get over yourself.
Partners on here speakin the truth. OP is still a baby, so he just needs to learn how to channel that millennial narcissism for good use
For those thinking the response is harsh. I think it's comical to think a post like this isn't meant to generate that exact kind of reaction. If you want commiseration then tell a story that people can get behind, one of true unfairness. A whiny complaint half truth no details post deserves nothing more. Good luck with the new job OP. One less entitled young un to deal with.
Manager 1 my new rate is def being accepted. Everything happens for a reason. We'll see how things play out!
